Abstract:

We analyzed the effect of BAK1 in the Turnip crinkle virus (TCV)-Arabidopsis thaliana Col-0 compatible interaction. As a result, loss of BAK1 function resulted in enhanced susceptibility to infection by TCV, enhanced leaves chlorosis and withered. However, BAK1 overexpressing plants delayed the disease development. We found the symptoms was associated with the reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation in this compatible interaction. BAK1 might negatively regulate ROS production. We also found the TCV-induced elevated expression of potential target genes encoding transcription factors downstream of the MAPKs in BAK1 transgenic plants, which played a role in the immunity response to TCV. However, the induced PR1 and PR2 expression did not confer resistance to TCV.
