Abstract: Agroforestry systems, now considered as a sustainable agricultural system, have profound impacts on harmonious development of ecology, economy and society. As a case study of central hilly areas in Sichuan, this study investigated the farmer’s awareness of agroforestry systems, and its influence factors using participatory rural appraisal (PRA). The results showed that the implementation of agroforestry system enhanced farmers’ perception and knowledge of agroforestry system noticeably. The results also indicated that the implementation of agroforestry system advanced farmers’ awareness. However, there are still parts of unwilling farmers, and farmers’ consciousness of environmental conservation was still low. Results from logistic regression analysis show that farmers’ perception of agroforestry, extension contact, annual income, education level of household head, and total land cultivated area are important variables in determining the adoption of agroforestry. The results suggest that the government would strengthen drumbeating and education of demonstrate, and would increase supports of investment and channel of vendition.
