Abstract: The species of Psathyrostachys lanuginosa (Trin.) Nevski, which was described in Flora Reipublicae Popularis Sinicae, Tomus 9(3), needs revision because the herbarium specimens used for writting this flora was mis-identified by Kuo, the redactor of this volume. Most of them are P. stoloniformis Baden, Linde-Laursen et Dewey.
P. lanuginosa has smaller spikes than the description in this flora. It is 10-30mm long and 4-9mm wide. The margin of the internode of rachis is not formed with two 0.5mm wide wing like appedages (This kind of wing like structure was only be found in P. stoloniformis). The glumes, lemma and two keels of palea are covered with long hairs, they are much more densely than that of P. stoloniformis.
P. lanuginosa only distribute in Fu-yun and Qing-he Counties, Xmjiang, China. All the specimens from Gansu and Qinghai are idenfied belonging to P. stoloniformis.
P. lanuginosa was found to be two kinds of karyotypes, the diploid (2n=14) and tetrapioid (2n=28).
In this Flora, Finure 6:10-12, clearly, they are not the picture of P. lanuginosa. They are P. stoloniformis.
